Summer of 1982 #125

While searching for (of all things) a Mayo flag in our house yesterday I came across the photo below taken in Achill Island Co Mayo, that I hadn't seen for some time. I posted it to family and friends on Facebook and got a great reaction, so I've decided to make it part of my Year of Blogging! This is a very young Eugene and Roma in the summer of 1982 - probably during the August Bank Holiday Weekend, I was 22, Roma 20. In the background is Roma's Dad Billy's Renault 4 car that we used to travel around Achill. Around my neck is a St Anthony's medal that Roma gave me the previous year for my 21st birthday. Also, I loved that red t-shirt - though I don't think it would fit me today! I also note a stubby bottle of stout in front of me - in those days when I had very little money, stout lasted a long time. Roma was having milk!

During July and August of 1982, "Fame" by Irene Cara was the number one hit all over the world. Below is the badly pixelated version of the scene from the movie where Bruno's Dad play this song in the street. Memories!
